The rich history of the African American community in Durham, North Carolina is one of ingenuity, resilience, and a resolute determination to carve out creative lives supporting human dignity against unimaginable odds of social injustice and systemic racism. It is the story of the place of Hayti, Durham, the people who shaped that space, the institutions they built, and the systems they challenged.
